Marko Hietala

On 17 October 2026 Finnish bassist and singer Marko Hietala brings his solo project to the Lido in Berlin. Known for his work with Tarot and later as bassist and vocalist for Nightwish (2001–2020), he now blends hard rock, melodic metal and progressive elements into distinctive, narrative songs. Live, his unmistakable voice and the punchy bass come to the fore, alternating with heavy riffs, expansive keyboard textures and odd-time grooves.

On the program are pieces from Pyre of the Black Heart as well as songs from his Finnish period and recent solo material. Hietala is accompanied by his tight band, featuring guitarist and producer Tuomas Wäinölä, keyboardist Bob Engstrand and drummer Anssi Nykänen. Together they draw on the legacy of classic rock and Nordic metal and distill it into a compact, direct set that oscillates between intensity and atmosphere. Bass, vocals and band interplay take center stage — focused, edgy, with room for nuance.
