Southern Culture on the Skids

Southern Culture on the Skids roll into Fox Cabaret, Vancouver, on September 3, 2026. Born in mid-80s Chapel Hill, the trio—guitarist-singer Rick Miller, bassist-singer Mary Huff and drummer Dave Hartman—work a lean blend of rockabilly, surf, country, rhythm and blues and garage. Their songs tap into roadside Americana: pop culture, B-movies, small-town diners and two-lane highways, wrapped in tight harmonies and twang.

A wider crowd met them with Dirt Track Date in 1995, followed by Plastic Seat Sweat in 1997 and Liquored Up and Lacquered Down in 2000. Back on their own label since, they’ve stacked releases like Mojo Box, The Kudzu Ranch, The Electric Pinecones, Bootleggers Choice and At Home with Southern Culture on the Skids, keeping a steady touring life along the way. Onstage, it’s brisk tempos, reverb-soaked guitars and fuzzed-out riffs, with bass-and-drums that swing and snap. The set moves from surf instrumentals to country shuffles and R&B grooves without fuss, leaving space for call-and-response moments and a dance-floor tilt. Guests will open.
