Info
On June 27, 2026, at Montréal’s Théâtre Maisonneuve, Cécile McLorin Salvant presents a program in which jazz tradition intersects with a strong narrative impulse and neglected texts. Born in Miami to a French‑Haitian family, she studied classical voice and jazz in Aix‑en‑Provence before the 2010 Thelonious Monk Competition launched her onto the international stage. Now based in New York, she moves fluidly among standards, originals and seldom‑heard songs, singing in English, French and occasionally Haitian Creole. Her concerts are built around story and character, with arrangements that draw on jazz, chanson, blues, early music and touches of cabaret. Across albums such as WomanChild, For One to Love, Dreams and Daggers, The Window, Ghost Song and Mélusine, she has developed a singular approach that gives the text’s meaning equal weight with the melodic line. On stage, she weaves ballads and theater‑tinged numbers together with newer material, guided by flexible phrasing and meticulous attention to the words.
