Info
Matt Berninger steps out from The National to bring his baritone and finely drawn stories to the Orpheum in Vancouver on March 11, 2026. Known for shaping the mood and the words of The National since the late 90s, the Cincinnati-born singer writes with a tight focus on daily frictions, family ties and city nights, delivered in a low register that carries both weight and ease. Outside the band, he’s explored other routes: the pop-leaning EL VY with Brent Knopf, film work, and a solo path opened by Serpentine Prison in 2020, a set of understated arrangements, American rock roots and discreet soul colors.
On stage, Berninger leans into that catalogue with a calm intensity, letting space, dynamics and phrasing lead. Songs grow quietly, choruses land late, and lyrics cut close without theatrics. Between hushed ballads and mid-tempo pulses, he keeps a balance between candor and craft, revisiting solo material and collaborations with a small-band feel.
