Bugge Wesseltoft

Bugge Wesseltoft will bring his protean sonic universe to Schloss Neuhardenberg on 28 November 2026. The Norwegian pianist and composer, born in Porsgrunn in 1964, first shaped Oslo’s jazz scene before presenting his own approach that moves between acoustic jazz, electronics and ambient. In 1996 he founded the label Jazzland Recordings and launched the New Conception of Jazz series, in which improvisation, club-oriented rhythms and spare electronic textures come together. At the same time, his solo album It’s Snowing on My Piano (1997) reveals the intimate, slowed-down side of his work with its slow, melodic pieces.

In concert, Wesseltoft layers fragile motifs, percussive patterns and warm synth pads into open forms that breathe and evolve. He moves effortlessly between piano, electronics and live looping, maintaining a balance between stillness and forward momentum. Experiences from collaborations — for example with Henrik Schwarz or in the trio Rymden with Dan Berglund and Magnus Öström — feed into his playing. The set traces the terrain between club culture and European jazz without rupture: concentrated, agile and grounded in the moment.
