Vancouver’s Said The Whale brings its 20th Anniversary Tour to Edmonton on April 18, 2026 at The Starlite Room, 10030 102 Street Northwest. Formed in 2007 around songwriters Ben Worcester and Tyler Bancroft and joined by keyboardist Jaycelyn Brown, the band has built a melodic indie rock sound with a pop edge: bright guitars, close-knit harmonies and lyrics rooted in everyday scenes and the Pacific coast.
Across albums, they’ve shifted without losing their core. Taking Abalonia (reworked as Howe Sounds/Taking Abalonia) set the tone, followed by Islands Disappear and Little Mountain, where punchier tracks sit alongside more contemplative moments. With hawaiii, the duo’s vocal interplay takes a clearer shape and the arrangements tighten. As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide leans inward, then Cascadia and Dandelion fold in alternative pop and a touch of folk while keeping songs direct and melodic.
On stage, this anniversary set draws a line from the early cuts to the recent material, moving between energetic bursts and slower burners, with the contrast between Worcester and Bancroft’s voices at the center. A snapshot of two decades of songwriting, played up close at The Starlite Room.
