Hands Like Houses, Broadside

Info

On May 21, 2026 at Backstage & O’Sullivans By The Mill, Hands Like Houses arrive from Canberra with alternative rock characterized by atmospheric textures and tense buildups. For more than ten years, the five-piece led by Trenton Woodley has carved out a place between post-hardcore and modern rock, from early albums Ground Dweller and Unimagine to Dissonants, then -Anon. and the self-titled EP, which revealed a more direct sound. Spotlit by Rise Records, supported by triple j and nominated at the ARIA Awards, the band moves forward through contrasts: massive guitars, melodic vocal lines and tight song structures. On stage they strike a balance between impact and melody, with songwriting that privileges tension and openness.

Broadside, a pop-rock outfit from Richmond fronted by Oliver Baxxter alongside Domenic Reid and Patrick Diaz, draws on The Killers, AFI, Kings of Leon and Taking Back Sunday to blend immediate melodies with emo tension. After Into the Raging Sea, their album Hotel Bleu marked a more introspective turn focused on travel and surpassed 100 million streams. Now on Thriller Records, the trio continues its evolution toward modern pop rock—between clear, catchy choruses and taut guitars—with new tracks announced for 2025.
