The Irish Rovers

Info

The Irish Rovers play Thunder Bay on March 12, 2026, at Thunder Bay Community Auditorium, 1 Paul Shaffer Drive, P7B 6C7 Thunder Bay, Canada. Formed in early‑1960s Toronto by young musicians from Northern Ireland, the group has long bridged Irish tradition and North American folk. Their repertoire moves from ballads to singalongs, drinking songs and maritime tales, with arrangements that mix folk, pub energy and a hint of country. Early albums like The First of the Irish Rovers (1966) and The Unicorn (1967) carried their songs beyond the club circuit, leading to a strong presence on festival stages and television throughout the 1970s. At the turn of the 1980s, they briefly performed as The Rovers with a greater country and pop tilt, then returned to a clearly Celtic identity.

In the 21st century, The Irish Rovers keep touring and recording projects focused on sea songs, exile and Irish memory, maintaining a thread between tradition, original writing and the culture of the diaspora. In Thunder Bay, the band brings that blend to the stage, drawing on a songbook shaped for choruses, stories and the shared pulse of folk music.
