Big Country plays Wylam Brewery in Newcastle upon Tyne on 6 December 2026. Formed in 1981 in Dunfermline by Stuart Adamson with Bruce Watson, Tony Butler and Mark Brzezicki, the band emerged from the post-punk and new wave scene to shape a lean, melodic rock where chiming guitars often hint at the cadence of Scottish folk and bagpipes. That signature runs through The Crossing (1983), Steeltown (1984), The Seer (1986) and Peace in Our Time (1988), then shifts on No Place Like Home (1991), Why the Long Face (1995) and Driving to Damascus (1999) toward more direct songwriting between rock, folk rock and roots accents. After a pause following Adamson’s passing in 2001, Big Country returned to the stage from 2007 around Bruce Watson, releasing The Journey in 2013. This show draws on that trajectory, mixing early staples and deeper cuts, with ringing guitars and a steady rhythm section setting the pace.
