Primal Scream: XTRMNTR

Primal Scream revisit XTRMNTR at New Century, Manchester, on 12 September 2026. Led by Bobby Gillespie with Andrew Innes and Darrin Mooney at the core, the band returns to its most abrasive, beat-driven chapter: breakbeats and dub undertow, serrated guitars, siren synths and a relentless pulse. Born in Glasgow and shaped by the collision of indie, acid house and club culture, Primal Scream pushed their sound into harsher territory at the turn of the millennium, and XTRMNTR (2000) captured that shift with a mix of electro-rock, industrial tension and heady atmospheres.

On stage, the record’s DNA translates into a lean, physical set: motorik grooves, fuzzed riffs and low-end pressure. From Kill All Hippies and Accelerator to Swastika Eyes and MBV Arkestra, the band threads together menace and momentum without losing the psychedelic streak that’s followed them since their early days. Expect a tight unit, a focus on rhythm and texture, and that particular Scream blend where guitars lock to machines and the dancefloor bleeds into the moshpit.
