Wet Wet Wet revisit the album that started it all. On 16 October 2027 at Sheffield City Hall, the Scottish pop outfit celebrate 40 years of Popped In Souled Out, the 1987 debut that topped the UK Albums Chart and featured the singles Wishing I Was Lucky, Sweet Little Mystery, Angel Eyes and Temptation. The record went multi-platinum in the UK and carried the band beyond Britain, breaking into the US Billboard charts. Four decades on, they return to those songs with the blend of melody, soul influence and pop finesse that marked their beginnings.
Formed in Clydebank near Glasgow, Wet Wet Wet mixed soul-tinged ballads and accessible pop across a run of albums from The Memphis Sessions and Holding Back the River to Picture This. Their version of Love Is All Around was widely heard via Four Weddings and a Funeral, anchoring their place in 90s pop culture. This anniversary show puts Popped In Souled Out at the centre while tracing the thread of their catalogue back to that first statement.
Also on the bill, Rebecca Ferguson brings a low, supple voice and a songwriting style shaped by R&B, blues and gospel. From her debut Heaven to Heaven Part II, she favours clean melodies and uncluttered arrangements that sit naturally alongside Wet Wet Wet’s melodic pop, setting up a night that moves between late-80s classics and contemporary soul.
