DJ Rolando, Jack de Marseille

Rolando is closely associated with “Jaguar” among techno fans — an iconic track of electronic music. Born in Detroit’s Hispanic neighborhood in the early 1970s, he heard Jeff Mills on the radio and immersed himself in techno. A mutual friend introduced him to Mad Mike Banks, head of the Underground Resistance label. In the early 1990s Rolando served as an Assault DJ for UR. He began composing and released records from 1997 under the pseudonym The Aztec Mystic, and later as part of the Los Hermanos collective with Santiago Salazar, Dan Caballero, Gerald Mitchell and others.

In 1999, “Jaguar” was released on the EP Knights of the Jaguar – UR049. The track was played at countless raves, to the point that Sony/BMG recorded a cover for a compilation. The techno scene’s reaction was unanimous, underscoring the independent spirit of this legacy.

Rolando went on to release mixes such as The Aztec Mystic Mix on UR. He performs regularly across Europe, bringing a mixing technique rooted in the Detroit tradition.

Jack de Marseille, whose real name is Jacques Garrotta, was born on December 19, 1965 and lives in Marseille. Known for his contribution to electronic music, he took part, from the late 1980s, in the emergence of the French electronic scene. Often reductively labeled a “house DJ,” Jack de Marseille resists categories. His identity is defined by the energy of the rhythms and the colors he juxtaposes, blends and melts together in response to the dancefloor, with softer, more sensual deep accents.
