On 19 November 2026 at L’Alhambra, Paris, Sam Wilkes and Sam Gendel, figures of the Los Angeles scene, push the boundaries between jazz, pop, electronica and experimentation. Their duo cultivates a fluid yet precise sound conceived for live performance, where each idea slips in and reinvents itself.
Bassist, producer and composer Sam Wilkes leads through groove. He works the pulse like a supple material, lets motifs breathe and allows the bass to draw melodic lines that hold the whole together, while keeping the space open for exchange.
For his part, Sam Gendel, saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, pursues texture. He repurposes winds and controllers, layers loops and processing to create novel timbres and minimalist atmospheres — between breath, grain and subtle electronics.
Together they weave an intuitive dialogue nourished by years of collaborations with Ry Cooder, Chaka Khan, Moses Sumney, Vampire Weekend and Louis Cole. On stage, improvisation, micro-variations and a gentle tension between minimalism and groove take precedence: a set that moves by gliding shifts, where the bass and the treated saxophone respond to one another and constantly shift the centre of gravity.
