On March 21, 2026, Midway Music Hall (6107 104 Street NW, Edmonton) hosts Black Label Society. Formed in Los Angeles in 1998 by guitarist and singer Zakk Wylde, former stage partner of Ozzy Osbourne, the band sculpts a heavy metal sound rooted in classic hard rock, southern touches and electric ballads. Around Wylde’s writing and guitar tone, the lineup shifts, with bassist John DeServio often anchoring a four-piece. From Sonic Brew (1999) to The Blessed Hellride (2003), Mafia (2005) and Doom Crew Inc. (2021), the catalogue stacks thick riffs, mid-tempo drive and stretched solos, moving between faster cuts, darker moods and near-acoustic breaks. The vocals stay rugged yet melodic, bridging classic metal influences, a blues sensibility and a modern approach to guitar.
Zakk Sabbath is also on the bill, Wylde’s power-trio devoted to the early Black Sabbath songbook. The project leans into doom, blues and hard rock roots, with rotating rhythm sections drawn from the metal scene and an approach that keeps arrangements raw and live. In 2020, the trio released Vertigo, a front-to-back re-creation of Sabbath’s debut, played in the original order and spirit.
