Info
On 30 September 2026 at The Jam Jar in Bristol, Ablaye Cissoko and Cyrille Brotto bring their duo to the stage for a close-up conversation between kora, voice and diatonic accordion. Built around Djiyo (“water”), their music moves with a natural flow: slow, detailed phrases, airy silences, and lines that answer each other like two friends trading stories.
Cissoko draws on the Manding griot tradition, where the kora carries memory and the voice shapes the tale, while Brotto comes from Southern France’s folk and dance music, with an accordion playing that stays rhythmic but never heavy. Together they thread Manding and Occitan colors into pieces that can feel like a wandering waltz, shifting from gentle melancholy to brighter pulses, always focused on listening, nuance and the pleasure of a shared groove.
