Nouvelle Vague lands at Hangar 34 in Liverpool on March 13, 2027, bringing its signature twist on punk, new wave and post-punk classics. Founded in 2003 by Marc Collin and the late Olivier Libaux, the project started as a one-off idea: take sharp, melancholic songwriting from the late 70s and 80s and slip it into a bossa nova frame. The result is that instantly recognizable mix of brushed rhythms, acoustic pop and lounge textures, with female voices at the center and a lineup that shifts from show to show.
On stage, Nouvelle Vague plays with contrast: the bite of the originals stays there, but everything is stripped back, warmer, and oddly intimate. Their latest chapter follows the same rule, sparked by vocalist Alonya’s take on The Clash’s “Should I Stay Or Should I Go,” and pushing that French art of reinvention a little further. Expect familiar songs, reframed in a softer light, without losing what made them hit in the first place.
