Info
On January 9, 2027, The High Kings bring their Dublin-rooted take on Irish folk to the Canal Court Hotel in Newry. Since forming in 2008, the band has kept the singalong spirit of traditional ballads and pub tunes front and center, driven by tight vocal harmonies and that Celtic snap that makes the choruses stick. Their sound doesn’t freeze folk in time either: arrangements can lean more contemporary, sometimes even picking up a slight country shade.
With Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Darren Holden and Paul O’Brien on stage, the set naturally moves between well-known traditional material and songs shaped specifically for the group. Their run of records maps that balance, from their self-titled debut through Memory Lane and Friends for Life, up to later releases like Home from Home and The Road Not Taken, an album built entirely around original compositions. Expect a night where storytelling, rhythm and group vocals do most of the talking.
