On February 15, 2027, Avishai Cohen will perform at the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse, bringing with him that sense of musical storytelling that has firmly established him in contemporary jazz. A double bass player and composer born in 1970 at Kibbutz Kabri, he has built a highly recognizable sound: a bass at the center, rhythmic motifs that circle and transform, melodies that grab the ear, and this way of opening jazz toward Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, or Latin colors. Having spent time in New York, shaped by his collaborations with Danilo Pérez and then by the adventure alongside Chick Corea (Origin and the New Trio), Cohen has progressed since his early leader albums such as Adama or Devotion, with writing that is precise but never fixed. On stage, he lets improvisation breathe, and often brings the voice into the performance, in Hebrew or Ladino, as a direct thread between tradition and the present.
