Imarhan establishes itself, album after album, as one of the faces of the new Tuareg scene. Born in Tamanrasset, in southern Algeria, the band brings a fresh breeze to the assouf, that tense and hypnotic desert blues, propelled by looping electric guitars, backing vocals, and rhythms that owe as much to local festivities as to urban music. Between Kel Tamashek roots and a pop-rock sensibility, Imarhan portrays the daily life of a youth split between the immensity of the Sahara and the city, with direct Tamasheq lyrics and a collective energy that shines through in the arrangements.
As the opening act, the Timililit Choir kicks off the evening.
