Souad Massi

Souad Massi stops in Perpignan on October 11, 2026 at the Théâtre de l’Archipel for a concert centered on her songwriting and her many voices. A singer and multi-instrumentalist from Algiers, she has, since the 1990s, carved out a singular path between chaâbi, folk, rock, flamenco and Arabic music, without borders or unnecessary effects. Her pared-down approach, carried by a warm voice, gives each piece an immediacy and clarity that speak at once.

On stage she moves between Arabic, French and Berber, weaving stories of exile, freedom, love and social change. Poetry and resistance answer each other in her lyrics, with spare arrangements that leave room for the melodies and the words. Discovered with the group Atakor before embarking on an international career, Souad Massi treats her repertoire like a travel journal, where songs evolve, are stripped back or reinvented.

In Perpignan she presents a set where folk ballads intersect with rhythms more rooted in the Maghreb, between gentle tension and subtle pulses. It’s an evening designed to listen to the stories, follow the guitar, and let the languages converse without grand speeches—simply close to the songs.
