Info
Yellowman, Kingston-born deejay Winston Foster, brings his yard-tested dancehall to Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on 8 July 2026. Raised at Alpha Boys School and forged on sound systems, he helped steer reggae from roots to the 80s dancehall, riding Henry Junjo Lawes riddims with a clipped, elastic flow. On stage with the Sagittarius Band, his talk-over delivery—half chant, half rap—jumps from one riddim to the next, with hooks traded back and forth with the crowd. The set draws on early milestones like Mister Yellowman, Zungguzungguguzungguzeng and King Yellowman, then reaches toward later pieces where the lyrics turn spiritual or social. Versions slip between analogue throb and early digital bite, always anchored by his distinctive phrasing. Decades in, Yellowman still moves between slackness and culture, reshaping familiar lines against fresh backdrops. A live show that traces the thread from dancehall’s first wave to its modern echoes, carried by a voice cut on the yard and tuned for the stage.
