Info
Formed in Amsterdam in 1969, Focus bring their singular take on progressive rock to Òran Mór in Glasgow on 24 April 2027. Still led by keyboardist and flautist Thijs van Leer, the Dutch group builds songs around long-form structures, sharp tempo contrasts and a clear melodic line, where organ, flute and guitar each claim their space without crowding the others.
On stage, that balance comes through in pieces that breathe and pivot: tight riffs open into extended passages, Hammond swells answer lyrical flute themes, and the rhythm section shifts gears with precision. The band doesn’t shy away from the playful side either, with the vocal acrobatics heard on Hocus Pocus slipping into the set alongside instrumental movements shaped by jazz detours, classical hints and rock drive.
Across changing line-ups, Focus have kept writing as well as revisiting their catalogue, from In and Out of Focus and Moving Waves through Focus 3 and Hamburger Concerto, up to Focus 8, Focus X, Focus 11 and the recent Focus 12. Expect a show that threads familiar themes with newer material, letting motifs evolve, build and resolve at their own pace, carried by van Leer’s flute and keys, agile guitar work and drums that keep the momentum steady and alive.
