Yard Act

Yard Act bring their incisive post-punk to Bristol Beacon in Bristol on 21 November 2026. Formed in Leeds by vocalist James Smith and bassist Ryan Needham, the quartet first stood out with story-driven singles that blend dry humour, social observation and tight, bass-led grooves. Their 2022 debut, The Overload, laid the groundwork: talk-sung vocals, wiry guitars and a clear-eyed take on everyday Britain.

On stage, Yard Act lean into that balance of narration and rhythm. Smith’s delivery shifts from muttered asides to clipped chants, while the band lock into tense, danceable patterns that leave space for the words to bite. Scenes of small hustles, office politics and awkward nights out unfold over elastic basslines and staccato riffs, keeping the focus on detail rather than grand statements.

Their set typically draws on those early singles and the debut album, with newer tracks in the mix, played with a direct, unfussy drive. Between the sly storytelling and the taut instrumentation, the Leeds outfit turn sharp observations into songs built for movement, without losing their knack for timing and tone.
