On 11 November 2026 at Whitby Pavilion Theatre in Whitby, Shaun Ryder steps out under the banner Happy Mondays, and Fridays, and Saturdays and Sundays. Born in Greater Manchester, Ryder first made his name as the frontman and lyricist of Happy Mondays, the Salford group tied to the Madchester wave. His direct writing and talk-sung delivery helped shape a sound where post-punk, baggy and alternative rock met funk grooves, club culture and a psychedelic streak, captured on albums like Bummed (1988) and Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches (1990).

After that first chapter, Ryder formed Black Grape with Bez, pushing a tougher mix of rock and dance beats with a spoken word edge. Black Grape released It’s Great When You’re Straight... Yeah (1995) and Stupid Stupid Stupid (1997) before returning with Pop Voodoo (2017) and Orange Head (2024). In parallel, Ryder has followed his own path with Amateur Night in the Big Top (2003) and Visits from Future Technology (2021), and he lent his voice to Gorillaz on DARE in 2005.
