On July 4, 2026 at Le Triton (Les Lilas), Magma unfolds its zeuhl, that taut blend of progressive rock, jazzy pulses and choral writing that has defined the group since 1969. Led by Christian Vander—drummer, singer and composer—the collective plays with ostinato basses, cyclical rhythms and voices treated as an ensemble, carried by Kobaïan, the invented language that serves as a narrative thread. Under the title Zeuhl Kommandöh, the band draws on a repertoire where rhythmic energy and compositional precision interlock, from founding themes to more recent pieces, producing music that advances in blocks, with tensions and releases.
A central figure of the evening, Christian Vander sets the overall dynamic, balancing vocal fervor and a mastery of tempo inherited as much from modal jazz as from choral practice. His way of shaping forms—stretching then tightening motifs—creates a space where each part finds its place, from the bass lines to the keyboards and the voices. At Le Triton, Magma’s history is heard above all as a living present: precise collective writing, a recognizable sound, and a language that turns singing into a genuine instrument.
