David August

After the multidisciplinary journey of VĪS, David August returns to the instrument that shaped his initial musical language: the piano. With HYMNS, the Italian-German composer sets aside the electronic architectures that brought him recognition in favour of a more direct writing, conceived in 2021 between periods of lockdown and improvisation sessions. Rather than a classical recital, he proposes a stripped-down dialogue with the keyboard: often prepared piano, motifs shaped in the moment, real-time sound processing, the use of silence and soundscapes that open the listening experience.

On stage, August performs the music of HYMNS and other pieces, extended by improvised excursions. The gesture is introspective, turned towards light more than shadow, restrained yet candid in its delivery. What you hear is less the electronic producer than a composer returning to the source—not as a demonstrative virtuoso, but in a direct, face-to-face relationship with his instrument.
