Elie Semoun « Cactus »

Elie Semoun returns with Cactus, a new show that takes a turn more toward stand-up while staying true to his characters. With thirty years on stage, a gallery of well-defined figures, and the same taste for observing everyday life, he pushes further the interplay between sketches and mic-in-hand performance: Jean Abdul improvises as the opening act, a son takes his father on a tour of a nursing home (EHPAD), Xavier, who has a motor disability, introduces his partner to his mother, and a parent accompanies their child’s transition. There’s also a karate class where remarks go off the rails, and sensitive subjects such as bullying and religion. Cactus addresses these topics with distance and precision, alternating confidences, character vignettes, and embodied narratives.
