Info
corto.alto, a project led by Scottish trombonist, composer and producer Liam Shortall, arrives in Paris with a sound that bridges contemporary jazz and club culture. Born in Glasgow, the collective explores the porous intersections of electronic, hip‑hop and soul influences, with sharp brass, broken‑beat rhythms and synthetic textures that interact with jazz harmonies. The writing is precise yet leaves room for improvisation; sections interlock and motifs evolve without overstating the effect. On stage, the dynamics are conceived as a flow—between tension and release, groove and melody—without losing the organic thread of the live performance.
After carving out a distinctive identity within the British scene, corto.alto presents this work in concert on 29 April 2026 at La Maroquinerie, Paris. It’s an opportunity to hear compositions crafted for the stage, where the rhythm section converses with brass and machines and where moods shift from a soulful breath to a more club‑driven push. For those following the new wave of jazz from across the Channel, the project demonstrates that approach of combining taut beats, melodic lines and electronic hues without boxing genres in. An invitation to experience the project up close, in a format that privileges collective energy and the immediacy of the moment.
