Weezer bring their elastic mix of power pop and alternative rock to Utilita Arena Newcastle in Newcastle upon Tyne on May 14, 2027. Formed in Los Angeles in 1992 around Rivers Cuomo, the band built its identity on crunchy guitars, big singalong hooks and lyrics that balance self-mockery with a streak of melancholy. From the punchy immediacy of the Blue Album to the more raw, personal edge of Pinkerton, then the leaner pop-rock of the Green Album, Weezer have kept moving while staying instantly recognizable. Their recent run—OK Human, Van Weezer and the SZNZ series—shows the same taste for sharp melodies and quick left turns, made to hit hard live.
Taking Back Sunday open the night with the urgent, melodic tension that made them a key name in early-2000s emo and post-hardcore. Formed on Long Island in 1999, the band broke through with Tell All Your Friends, then pushed toward a bigger, more direct rock sound on Where You Want to Be and Louder Now. Led by Adam Lazzara alongside John Nolan and Shaun Cooper, they lean on intertwined vocals, nervous riffs and choruses built for shouting back from the crowd.
