On May 15, 2027, Souad Massi stops at Théâtre Le Carré in Sainte-Maxime with Zagate, a new album that marks a deliberate shift in the way she tells the world. A singer-songwriter with a warm voice, she blends electric rock, Saharan folk, and Arabic-language blues, in lyrics where the usual gentleness clashes with a harsher reality: conflicts, violence, freedom, memory.
Twenty-seven years after Raoui, which had revealed her far beyond Algeria, Massi broadens her palette further and presents eleven tracks in her image, built like a patchwork of influences. Gnawa percussion, electro loops, edgy riffs: the sonic material densifies, notably on Samt. This new chapter is also nourished by collaborations, including with guitarist Justin Adams and Gaël Faye. On stage, she bridges the two shores of the Mediterranean, without grandiose talk, just songs with a message that seek a way forward.
