Info
On 17 May 2026, The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh hosts Toots and the Maytals for the Reggae Got Soul 50th Anniversary Tour (1976–2026). Born in Kingston in the 1960s as the Maytals, the group blended ska, rocksteady and early reggae with gospel drive and tight harmonies, then updated its name for the 1969 debut album Sweet and Dandy. In 1968 they put the word reggae on wax with Do the Reggay, then built a catalogue of songs that became staples of Jamaican music.
Now led by Toots’ daughter Leba Hibbert, the band brings a set drawn from 54-46 Was My Number, Monkey Man, Pressure Drop, Funky Kingston, Broadway Jungle, Bam Bam, Time Tough and, of course, Reggae Got Soul. Leba steps up as vocalist and bandleader, after releases under her own name and sessions with Sly & Robbie, Jimmy Cliff and others, carrying the group’s sound forward while keeping its roots intact. Special guests are set to join the bill.
