The Mountain Goats, led by writer and frontman John Darnielle, play Dublin on 18 October 2026 at Vicar Street, Thomas Street, Dublin 8. Born from lo-fi cassette releases in the early 90s, the project has grown into a full-band show where bright acoustic guitars, keys and a tight rhythm section carry Darnielle’s fast, image-rich storytelling. Live, the set often moves across decades: early tape-era songs refit for the stage, flashpoints like This Year and No Children, and recent material from Beat the Champ, Goths, In League with Dragons, Bleed Out and Jenny from Thebes. The lyrics track small-town drama, hard turns and near-misses; jokes sit next to bruises, and choruses land fast. Darnielle shifts from breathless talk-singing to ringing hooks, the band from hush to forward drive, keeping the narratives front and center. Folk rock with clear lines and sharp pacing, built for close listening and loud singalongs.
