On 30 September 2026, a double bill at Frannz Club in Berlin will bring two handwriting voices of US indie to the same stage: Vundabar and Yot Club.
Yot Club is the project of US musician Ryan Kaiser, born in the area between Mississippi and Nashville. His songs move between indie and bedroom pop, featuring clear, slightly overdriven guitars, repetitive grooves and a muted vocal that creates intimacy without forcing itself front and center. The track “YKWIM?” brought him wider attention; the album Off the Grid (2022) picks up the pace and flirts with melodic post‑punk. Live, Yot Club appears as a full band on stage—more direct and edgier—while continuing to address themes such as everyday life, suburban stagnation and the urge to break free.
From Boston comes Vundabar, the core duo of singer/guitarist Brandon Hagen and drummer Drew McDonald. Their indie rock draws on surf and post‑punk, relies on cutting guitars and a nasal vocal line, and was honed through DIY tours across the US and Europe. From Antics (2013) and Gawk (2015) with their raw approach, through Smell Smoke (2018), which deals with loss, mental health and family dynamics, to Either Light (2020) with denser arrangements and Devil for the Fire (2022), nervy and brittle, the band probes contrasts. On stage the setup remains lean, the bass revolves, and dynamics are the focus. Two perspectives on contemporary guitar pop—one night in Berlin.
