Info

On 13 October 2026 DeVotchKa will perform at the Melkweg in Amsterdam. The four-piece from Denver coalesced in the late 1990s around singer-songwriter Nick Urata, together with Tom Hagerman, Jeanie Schroder and Shawn King, and often expands on stage with additional string and brass players. From their debut SuperMelodrama (2000) and Una Volta (2003) the band has blended indie rock with Eastern European folk, mariachi accents, Balkan rhythms and cabaret hues, with an eye for orchestral arrangements and tempo shifts. How It Ends (2004) brought the band beyond the American alternative scene, helped in part by their songs appearing in films and television series. In 2006 DeVotchKa composed the score for the film Little Miss Sunshine, further increasing their international profile. A Mad & Faithful Telling (2008) and 100 Lovers (2011) deepened the interplay of strings, brass and percussion; Live with the Colorado Symphony (2012) documented that orchestral inclination. With This Night Falls Forever (2018) DeVotchKa moved toward more compact indie pop, supported by Urata’s voice and a mix of melancholy and forward momentum. At the Melkweg the band will present a set that navigates between cinematic ballads and folk-rock, leaving room for dynamics and instrumental colour.
