Billy Talent

Billy Talent comes to Melkweg, Amsterdam on June 13, 2026. The Canadian band formed in the early 1990s around Toronto, initially as Pezz, and grew into a staple on the boundary between punk rock, post-hardcore and alternative rock. Around Benjamin Kowalewicz’s voice and Ian D’Sa’s angular guitar lines, the quartet builds songs with tight riffs, catchy choruses and a raw, grainy vocal style. The lyrics cut into themes like social tensions, alienation and relationships, with no frills.

Since their breakthrough with the self-titled 2003 album, the band’s live set draws on a substantial catalogue: Billy Talent II, III, Dead Silence and Afraid of Heights, supplemented by more recent work from Crisis of Faith (2022). Expect pace and harmonies, with songs that quickly shift between aggressive and melodic. The core of the group remains the driving force, even now that drummer Aaron Solowoniuk tours less for health reasons. At Melkweg, Billy Talent concentrates that energy and their knack for hooks into a straightforward, no-nonsense set.
