Info
On May 15, 2026 at History in Toronto, Grupo Niche brings the Niche Disco Tour to town. Founded in Bogotá in 1979 by composer and bandleader Jairo Varela with trombonist Alexis Lozano, the Colombian salsa orchestra later made its home in Cali and shaped a sound anchored by a large brass section, Afro-Caribbean percussion and a rotating team of lead singers. On stage, the band moves between salsa dura, romantic pieces and story-led songs inspired by city life and Colombia’s Pacific coast. The repertoire spans early breakouts like Buenaventura y Caney and No hay quinto malo’s Cali Pachanguero, through Cielo de tambores-era tracks such as Una aventura and Busca por dentro. Since 2012, musical director José Aguirre has guided the ensemble, renewing the voices while keeping the choral writing and crisp rhythmic arrangements that define its identity. For this Toronto date, the concert leans into groove and melody, carrying the pulse of Cali across decades.
