Info
Karate Boogaloo sit at the heart of Melbourne’s instrumental soul resurgence, and on February 5, 2027 they bring that tight-knit groove to London’s Jazz Cafe. Raised on the classic templates of Booker T & The MG’s and The Meters, the band started out chasing their heroes’ punchy organ-and-guitar drive before shaping a sound of their own: crisp funk rhythms, deep-pocket basslines, and melodic hooks that feel like they belong to a film scene you haven’t watched yet.
What really makes this set click is the chemistry. After nearly two decades of playing together, Karate Boogaloo move like a single unit, switching from hard-hitting breaks to smoother soul passages without losing the thread. There’s a playful streak in the way they lock in and tease the beat, but the playing stays sharp and rooted in the tradition they’re drawing from.
