Do you remember when the concept of technopop meant something? Luca Venezia, the man behind Curses, remembers it perfectly. This German-born producer, musician and DJ lives—artistically and spiritually—in that late-70s arc, when labels such as Mute Records in Germany or Factory Records in the United Kingdom glimpsed at the end of the tunnel a dance floor with post-punk and industrial overtones.
That is the dance floor Venezia continues to frequent with every release, and nearly fifteen years now spent blending club electronics with rock-inflected sounds. A decade and a half in which he even managed to seduce Johnny Jewel, the modern godfather of synth nostalgia, to release his third album, Another Heaven, on his Italians Do It Better label in 2024.
Accompanied on stage by bassist Dame Bonnet, Venezia will present the live dimension of his project in Madrid on November 6 at the Nazca venue.
