Two voices. Two careers. One shared stage. The renowned voices in Finnish rock and metal, Timo Kotipelto and Jarkko Ahola, are heading on their first joint concert hall tour. Expect an energetic tour that brings together the two charismatic singers' favorite repertoire, rock classics, and unprecedented duets.
On February 19, the Voices Unleashed tour, starting in Joensuu, will feature the artists' own hits, such as Stratovarius's Black Diamond and favorites from Ahola's career, as well as selected rock classics from the catalogs of Queen, Deep Purple, Ozzy Osbourne, and Scorpions. There will also be rock arrangements of songs from surprising sources, along with duets by Kotipelto and Ahola. The 14-concert tour ends in Helsinki on April 21.
— This is, above all, about what happens when two different yet equally powerful voices come into the same space. We wanted to create a concert where the audience hears us both separately and together. And we will let the voices truly soar, say Jarkko Ahola and Timo Kotipelto in unison. The tour blends the power of a rock concert, the tenderness of grand ballads, and the dialogue between two charismatic performers.
— We intend to live up to the audience's expectations, so our own material is of course included, says Jarkko Ahola, clarifying that at least 'Taivas luo tulta' will surely be heard. — I think we won't be allowed off the stage without them, adds Timo Kotipelto, and continues: — It's an honor to share the stage with a man whose career I have followed abroad, Ahola supports.
The concert will be accompanied by the Avenue Rock Orchestra. The twelve-member Avenue Rock Orchestra, made up of the country’s top musicians, is led by conductor Antti Rissanen and consists of a rock band, a brass section, and a string section.
Jarkko Ahola
One of Jarkko Ahola's career-defining moments has been leaving Teräsbetoni to pursue a solo career. The power- and heavy-metal voice made famous by the track 'Elämäni biisistäkin' has recently been heard on numerous tours and festivals.
Timo Kotipelto
Kotipelto is known worldwide as the frontman of the power metal band Stratovarius. He has served as the band's vocalist since 1994.
Avenue Rock Orchestra
On guitars: Tuomas Wäinölä and Saku Mattila. In charge of the rhythm section is Stratovarius's drummer Rolf Pilve. Keyboards are played by Bob Engstrand, a keyboardist who moved to Finland from Sweden, and bass by Jere Lehto. In the brass section are Tero Lindberg, Antti Rissanen, and Janne Huttunen.
