Info
On December 6, 2026, Sam Shackleton brings his acoustic folk set to Whelan’s in Dublin, with songs shaped as much by tradition as by the way people actually pass stories along. Born in Stirling and raised across Scotland, he works from the country’s oral lore and connects it naturally to Irish and American threads, where old-time, country, ballads and blues sit side by side.
Also known as Sorley the Bard, he keeps things direct: voice upfront, melody doing the work, and lyrics that feel lived-in rather than staged. Part of the set leans on his own writing, part on reworking older material, with an ear for narrative songs and the kind of details that stick in collective memory. His background in Scottish Ethnology and ethnomusicology shows in the way he treats these repertoires, not as museum pieces, but as a living tradition you can still sing into the room.
