Big Special land in Oxford on December 8, 2026 at The Bullingdon with their sharp West Midlands take on punk, spoken word and post-industrial rock. Built around the pairing of vocalist and writer Joe Hicklin with drummer Callum Moloney, the duo goes for a tight, physical sound: heavy rhythms, driving low-end, and those post-punk/industrial shades that make the tension stick. On stage, the delivery sits right between spoken and sung, with a blunt, story-first phrasing that keeps everything direct and close to the bone.
Their songs pull from everyday life in working-class communities, with lines that touch mental health and social frustration without dressing it up. Since breaking through on the UK independent circuit in the early 2020s and crystallising their approach on Postindustrial Hometown Blues (2024), Big Special have leaned into the contrast between raw impact and darker, more melodic moments. Expect a set that’s rhythmic, narrative, and made to be felt in the room.
