Info
On September 26, 2026, at the Funkhaus Berlin, Ryuichi Sakamoto's Opus will be shown as a cineaste screening—a project the composer himself envisioned as a way to document his performances while he could still play, and to preserve them in a form that has a future. Opus functions as a concentrated testament: Sakamoto's piano, his pauses, and his fine shifts between melody and timbre are central, without distraction, closely aligned with the gesture of playing.
Sakamoto, born in 1952 in Tokyo and who died in 2023, bridged electronic music, ambient, minimalism, and film music for decades—from Yellow Magic Orchestra to his late, pared-down works. In Opus, exactly this spectrum is condensed: the precise, physical side of the pianist and the detail-obsessed nature of the composer, who always thinks of sound as space. On September 27, 2026, a further screening will follow at the Funkhaus Berlin.
