Now Wave presents Gilla Band
Formed in Dublin in 2011, Gilla Band brings together Dara Kiely, Alan Duggan, Daniel Fox and Adam Faulkner in an Irish quartet first known as Girl Band, before adopting the name Gilla Band in 2021. Their trajectory lies between post-punk, noise rock and indie rock, with tense, repetitive and abrasive writing, where hammered rhythms, dissonant guitars and Kiely’s often spoken or convulsive voice play a central role.
After the single In My Head in 2012 and the EP France 98 the same year, Gilla Band quickly developed a live presence in Ireland and then in the United Kingdom, in independent rock circuits marked by strong intensity on stage. The band then signed with Rough Trade and released Holding Hands with Jamie in 2015, a first album that set the foundations of their sound.
After a slowdown due to health issues, Gilla Band returned with The Talkies in 2019, an edgier record crossed by industrial and electronic influences, then continued this evolution with Most Normal in 2022. With Gilla Band, rhythmic tension, loops, noisy textures and a stripped-back approach to melody shape a physical, nervous and often direct music.
