Info
From Tamanrasset, in southern Algeria, Imarhan have for years stretched the Tuareg tradition toward a sound of their own, straddling electric guitars, choirs, and that pulse that links the local party scene to the alternative. In concert, their music remains anchored in the tichumaren, but it doesn’t stay on a postcard: it works the groove, opens space for more pop-oriented lines, and lets rock and Saharan funk seep in without breaking the balance.
With Essam, their fourth album, the group shifts its focus and allows itself a more open and experimental terrain. The usual engineer, Maxime Kosinetz, signs on here as producer and, together with Emile Papandreou (UTO), introduces an organic electronic layer: live-sampled instruments reprocessed on the spot with a modular synthesizer, without masking the band’s identity. The result breathes community and territory, with handclaps, voices, and a sense of a shared room, as if the surroundings entered the mix.
Imarhan will present this new chapter on September 20, 2026 at Sala Villanos, Madrid.
