Formed in Bristol, UK, in 2020, the Tara Clerkin Trio consists of Tara Clerkin, Sunny Joe Paradisos, and Patrick Benjamin. The group blends trip-hop, avant-pop, modern classical, kraut-folk, dub, ambient, and indie influences through composition and improvisation.
Releases include a self-titled debut in 2020, In Spring (2021), and On the Turning Ground (2023). The upcoming album Somewhere Good develops these ideas over about 40 minutes, with themes of self-defeat, illness, displacement, restlessness, and gentrification.
Their sound combines droning harmonium, upright bass, wind instruments, acoustic guitar, keys, samples, and percussive elements. Jazz references appear in the playing and arrangements, with focused drumming and vocal melodies by Tara providing a consistent thread.
