The Dip (Early show)

Seattle’s The Dip bring a horn-forward take on soul and rhythm and blues, shaped by seven musicians who put groove and melody first. Rooted in the sound of the 60s and 70s but written with a clear, direct pop sensibility, their songs favor mid-tempo swing, warm guitar textures and arrangements that feel close to the stage. A focused lead vocal sits at the center, answered by tight trumpet and sax lines, while the rhythm section lays down steady, unhurried foundations.

Since their early self-released cuts, the band has honed this approach on The Dip Delivers (2019) and Sticking With It (2022), refining vocal harmonies and giving extra space to the bass-and-drums engine. Live, they move fluidly between slow-burn ballads, lightly funky turns and more danceable pieces, keeping the emphasis on interplay and feel rather than studio polish.

The Dip play Jazz Cafe in London on 8 June 2026, with a set that traces their full palette: brass-led hooks, unforced grooves and songs built to breathe in the room.
