The Congos

The Congos bring their roots reggae to Future Yard, Birkenhead, on 24 May 2026. One of Jamaica’s enduring vocal groups, they’ve kept their original lineup since the 1970s, carrying a shared Rastafarian ethos that shapes every show. On stage, their blend of voices locks into deep basslines and lilting rhythms, projecting a calm intensity and a feeling of togetherness.

Their music stays close to the spirit of Heart of the Congos, the 1977 album that defined their sound with smooth grooves, bold bass and crystalline harmonies. Expect those signature chants and call-and-response passages, the meditative sway of Fisherman and other key tracks, alongside later cuts that trace the group’s path without losing the thread: steady, spiritual, close to the source.

Cedric Myton’s high, grainy falsetto lifts over Ashanti Roy, Watty Burnett and Talash, weaving harmonies that feel both airy and grounded. The result is a roots moment anchored in principle rather than nostalgia, inviting the room into a shared pulse and an unforced, collective energy.
