Manchester trio GoGo Penguin bring their distinctive take on the piano trio to Project House in Leeds on 20 May 2026. Led by pianist Chris Illingworth with Nick Blacka on double bass and Jon Scott on drums, they fold electronic and minimalist ideas into an acoustic set-up: repeating motifs, melodic bass lines and broken-beat rhythms that shift between calm and turbulence. On stage they work the trio like a compact engine room, moving from tight unisons to open space, threading hints of trip-hop, breakbeat and film-score atmospheres into concise, evolving pieces.
Recent tracks sit alongside reworked cuts from earlier releases, reshaped for the room through dynamics, touch and interplay. No gadgets here, just piano, bass and drums played with a producer’s ear, building grooves and textures designed for focused listening and a steady head-nod.
