Info

Jake Xerxes Fussell brings his archival folk repertoire to Concorde 2, Brighton, on 13 October 2026. Raised in Georgia and based in North Carolina, he draws from nineteenth- and twentieth-century vernacular songs and field recordings, reshaping ballads, work songs and country blues with clear, melodic guitar and an unhurried voice. His set spans five albums, from his 2015 debut to When I’m Called, produced by James Elkington, with contributions from Ben Whiteley, Joe Westerlund and Blake Mills, plus backing vocals from Joan Shelley and Robin Holcomb. On stage he favors pared-back arrangements that leave room for the narratives and regional language carried by these songs.

Also on the bill, Naima Bock traces her own line through contemporary folk. Born in Glastonbury to Brazilian and Greek parents and first known as the bassist in Goat Girl, she has developed a solo project built on acoustic writing, layered vocals and restrained instrumentation. Giant Palm (2022) set the tone; Below a Massive Dark Land (2024) continued it with subtle pastoral and psych inflections. Live, she moves between band interplay and a more close-up delivery, keeping the focus on melody and pulse.
