Dead Calm

Dead Calm brings his slow-blooming songs to The Cluny in Newcastle upon Tyne on 17 September 2026. The project is one of several monikers used by Irish musician Liam McCay, raised in County Donegal and known for spreading his catalogue between Sign Crushes Motorist, Take Care and Birth Day. Under Dead Calm, he leans into lo-fi slowcore: slow tempos, muted guitars and an intentionally stripped-back writing style that keeps the focus on mood and detail.

On stage, McCay keeps things unadorned. Close-mic vocals, grainy guitar lines and small rhythmic shifts carry the set without hurry. The repertoire draws from Accept (2023) and Keep Moving (2025), with room for newer sketches shaped by his home-recording habits. The DIY approach isn’t a pose; it guides the sound—intimate, economical, and centered on texture over volume.
